  1. The Romantic Egoist Says:

I journal what happened in my day and then write my reflections on how I feel about them. Paying bills, eating some crepes, calling or not calling somebody I should, etc.

  2. Beth R Says:

I enjoy the Psalms and Proverbs of the Bible.

  3. Pittsburgher -The Ugly Duckling- Says:

When I first started I would think of specific things that happened that day…if they were bad things I would think of what I could’ve done to have made the situation less worse or avoid it over all and if the situation is good I would think about what made it good.

I don’t do it often, ADD is a bitch and I think of like 2 things and then I turn the TV on because I forget what I’m doing.

Meditation is more about focusing on nothing/everything. You should just focus on deep even breathing or a mantra.

    Yourself

I had meditation in A martial arts class. The only thing I felt was relaxation. We didn’t really do any meditation in any certain area. Later in life I found something far much more comforting and beneficial, (prayer)!

  7. I A O Says:

If you gaze outward a single candle works very well. If you gaze inward focus on a single thought and notice each time you stray from that thought. Other popular forms are asking the question; Who am I? or having the attention focused on breath; rising falling.

Those things in your life which are peaceful, pure, and comforting..

If you do not have any of those things in your life… Imagine that you do… and eventually you will…

    TEN MINDFULNESS FACTORS OF MEDITATION

At the end of each meditation, rank the strength of the following on a scale of 1 – 10.

    - Calmness
    - Alertness
    - Distraction of mind
    - Ability to let go
    - Motivation
    - Enjoyment
    - Sensitivity to body
    - Concentration
    - Effort
    - Quietness of thinking mind

You don’t need to evaluate any of these during the meditation, rather use your memory of the meditation session.

Since you are new to meditation, don’t focus too hard on the journaling. Rather focus on making meditation a daily practice. Begin to develop the skill of mindful breathing. Become aware of both inhalation and exhalation. Notice how your body responds to breathing, for example the rising and falling of either the abdomen or chest. Make the breath your anchor and focus of meditation.

One of my favorite ways to get into a meditative state is to use guided imagery. You might really like it because it gives you something calming to focus on.

I like the free guided imagery scripts on this site:

The guy who runs the blog is very nice – he’s studied meditation and guided imagery and related things since he was 11!

I don’t think you really need a journal. Meditation is not a mental exercise although it is often taught like that.
